The Secret of Lice Treatment

head lice
Head lice can be a very irritating and frustrating problem and can prove to be a cause for embarrassment. Hence, it is very important to follow lice treatment methods suggested by a reputed physiologist. The secret of lice treatment lies in the fact that it should be treated soon after you diagnose it.
The two most common lice treatment methods involve insecticides and web combing.
Insecticide:
This popular head lice treatment usually involves applying a head lice shampoo such as Nix or Rid and then diligently and patiently removing nits by using a lice comb.
Insecticides for lice treatment are available in the form of shampoos, lotions and liquid. Insecticides can be either water-based or alcohol-based. However, there is not much difference in the effectiveness of the two. Alcohol-based insecticides are not suitable for everyone and should be strictly avoided by a person suffering from asthma or eczema. Physicians often recommend water-based insecticides for children.
Insecticides are very effective in head lice treatment. There are different types of insecticides such as phenothrin (eg Full Marks), permethrin (eg Lyclear), Malathion (eg Derbac M) and permethrin (eg Lyclear), which you can easily obtain from a drug store.
Another type of insecticide, known as carbaryl (eg Carylderm), will be available to you only if it is prescribed by your GP. Carbaryl is usually prescribed only if the other insecticides prove ineffective.
While using insecticide for lice treatment, ensure that you read the instructions of the manufacturer before applying their products. You need to rub the insecticide lotion on your hair and scalp and leave it for at least 11-12 hours before washing it out. Foams and shampoos are not recommended as they do not remain in contact with the lice for a long time and so prove ineffective.
Though insecticides can kill living lice, they may be unable to kill the eggs. To get rid off the eggs, you'll need to repeat the insecticide treatment after a week.
Web combing:
This method of lice treatment is also known as "bug busting." It involves removal of head lice by using a fine-toothed comb (a comb whose teeth are 0.2 to 0.3mm apart). For this lice treatment method to be effective, you will need to comb through your hair diligently, every four days for a minimum of two weeks. It will be beneficial for you to repeat this procedure until you complete three consecutive sessions without noticing a single lice.
For web combing, you do not need to use any strong chemicals. Besides, lice do not become resistant to web combing and, hence, it can prove to be a very effective lice treatment method.
